Stride, Ramble, Trek.

Almost anybody can do the 2024 Virtual National Forest Trek. Our 75 mile / 120km virtual challenge means you can walk as little or as much as you want, at a time and location to suit you.

If you want to experience the National Forest first hand, then why not complete the 75 miles by following the 12 stages of the National Forest Way between the National Memorial Arboretum in the west to Beacon Hill in the east? You can go from east to west, or vice-versa and complete the stages in any order you like. Alternatively, if you want the joy of completing 75 miles / 120km, but on your own terms and where it suits you, then simply log your walking virtually and we’ll do the rest.

The route map below shows the three days that our trekkers undertook in the 2021 and 2022 challenges. They completed four stages of the trek each day, ranging from 20 to 30 miles. But don’t worry, you don’t need to undertake this type of challenge… you can walk as little or as much as you want.

THE 2021 and 2022 NATIONAL FOREST TREK challenge

Fundraising through the forest

It is not necessary to fundraise for the 2024 Virtual National Forest Trek, but if you are inclined to try to do so, then the three founding charities of the original National Forest Trek challenges are shown below. You are also welcome to choose your own charity if fundraising is something you would like to do.

The National Forest

Once scarred and blackened by mining and industry, the National Forest has been completely revived, with winding woodland trails and luscious green landscapes. We are right at the heart of the country, covering 200 square miles of the Midlands in which we have planted 9 million trees.

DMRC Benevolent Fund

Volunteer-led, the fund works to create better health and wellbeing — physically and mentally — for serving military personnel, helping them come to terms with illness or injury. Using the power of the outdoors, people gain confidence and a sense of normality, recovering in the quiet beauty of nature.

National Memorial Arboretum

For over 20 years, this memorial site has inspired people to gather in remembrance. There are over 400 memorials to discover, each with their own story, and places to sit and share memories. Nestled amongst nature, it shows how the strength, love and support of everyday people can lift us all.
